POTATO VIRUS DETECTION
Potato production relies on planting clean seed. With potatoes as the fourth largest crop, seed potato production is an extremely high value and high pressure crop. While seed potatoes undergo rigorous testing to ensure disease-free seed potato tubers; Potato Virus Y (PVY) continues to have a significant economic impact on potato production. Managing PVY depends on human in the loop manual roguing. This project will develop a optical non-contact detection method for PVY, thus removing the human factor to enable consistent and reliable detection. To achieve this, NWB Sensors, Inc. plans to collaborate with researchers at Montana State University to study the relationship between the reliability of optical detectable stress and the estimated viral titer in diseased plants.
