Precision agriculture is allowing agricultural producers to meet the needs of a growing human population. However, precision agriculture is passing by the small farm. Part of this is due to the financial and time commitment of collecting the data that enabled true data driven precision applications. The aim of this project is to bring precision agriculture within reach of a farm of any size. With funding provided by the United States Department of Agriculture Small Business Innovative Research program and a matching funds from the State of Montana we have begun our first steps toward making this project a reality. Our technology augments existing farm activities with low cost GPS enabled cameras and intelligent machine vision software to allow the grower to produce their own data whenever they drive their field.
